Brief History and Values

Sikh Sangat Moreton Bay INC came into existence on 11th February 2019 with Path Shri Sukhmani Sahib ji by a group of senior citizens at “GURU KIRPA” 40, Lackmann Crescent, Mango Hil 4509 Queenland Australia.  In  Sikhi (youngest major religion), service to humanity is seva (service) to Waheguru ji (God) , hence our motto “Service before Self’.

Religious Gatherings

Since its formation, on every sangrand or following Saturday path Shri Sukhmani Sahib takes place followed shabad kirtan and ‘Guru Ka Langar’ usually from 10.30 AM or as per convenience of the sangat which is communicated via WhatsApp or email messages. If any member of the sangat or member of this association desires a path to be done at the residence, there is no Bheta (Fee). That person, if he or she desires, can do langar seva on his/her own otherwise langar seva can be done by members on contributory basis means every member brings one cooked dish from their home as mutually agreed.

We strengthen cultural, social and religious fabric of the sikh sangat in the Moreton Bay.

Vision

Given most members now live geographically away from their motherland (Punjab), where many of our Gurus (God’s incarnation on earth) sacrificed everything for us in the not-too-distant past, it is our moral duty to preserve our rich culture, heritage and distinct and assertive language in this country. This is essential for younger generations, especially children, which we can do easily by organising ourselves in our respective areas. Sikh Sangat Moreton Bay Inc is trying to do the same under the able guidance of Lt Colonel B S Sandhu (Retd)(Indian Defence Force).  Even today’s event has been organised so that the local community and prominent leaders take notice and recognise the presence of our community.  This will help to communicate needs and aspirations of the Sikh community to the local and state government. May we request you to become a member of Sikh Sangat Moreton Bay Inc which is a registered, not-for-profit association. It abides by the rules for charities including annual audit of accounts. The annual membership fee is $ 20.

Our Association will keep on celebrating the main events of Sikh history and Punjabi culture like Khalsa Sajna divas/ Vaisakhi, Bandi shod Divas (Diwali) and other Gurburbs etc. In these celebrations, we invite Australian politicians, leaders and other Australian representatives from Government  Organisations. For example on the recent Khalsa Sajna Divas held on 20th April 24, Mr Chris Whiting State Member of  Parliament and  Mr Laurence Christie President of Mango Hill Progress Association were guests of honour and distributed prizes to the winning children.

Social Service

In addition to Path, members also carry out various other social activities. In the past,  they participated in ‘Clean Australia campaign’ and carried out cleaning at Lake Eden (North Lakes), Capestone lake ( Mango Hill) and Gurdwara Singh Sabha ( Taigum) etc. Members also participated in a march against domestic violence at Redcliffe and in the tree plantation drive by Judie Shipway ( Councillor ward 4) which was held at Mango Hill village. Ex-service members also regularly participate in ANZAC Day parade which is held annually at Brisbane in the memory of those Indian troops who laid down their lives in World War 1 at Gallipoli along with Australian-New Zealand soldiers.
